About Wentworth Mines Walk
Near Whangamatā in Waikato, Wentworth Mines Walk runs 0.7 km as a track.
A walk from the concrete ford at the end of Wentworth Valley Road, 7 km south of Whangamata, through regenerating forest beside the river to a picnic area, passing two old gold-mine shafts visible from the track. Note: DOC currently lists this track as closed due to severe storm damage (slips have made it impassable).
Graded easy, it climbs about 13 m overall, pitching up to 3 % at its steepest, and takes about 10m to walk.
Dogs are welcome here on the lead. DOC’s own wording: “Dogs on a leash only.”.
