About South Temple Track
This long track follows 7.0 km as a track, near Twizel in Canterbury.
A valley tramping track in Ruataniwha Conservation Park near Lake Ohau, following South Temple Stream up to the six-bunk South Temple Hut (about 3-4 hours one way). Reaching the hut requires fording South Temple Stream, which can be tricky after heavy rain; the track is also open to horse riding.
Graded moderate, it climbs about 252 m overall, pitching up to 23 % at its steepest, and takes about 1h 48m to walk.
Dogs are welcome here on the lead. DOC’s own wording: “Dogs on a leash only.”.
