About Mapoutahi Track
Mapoutahi Track is a track of 0.2 km, near Port Chalmers in Otago.
A walk to an 18th-century Māori pā on a headland at Purākaunui Bay, north of Dunedin. The route crosses a sandy beach and climbs steps to the hilltop site, where old defensive terraces and coastal views remain; about 3 km / 45 minutes return.
Graded easy, it stays flat overall, and takes about 2m to walk.
Dogs are welcome here on the lead. DOC’s own wording: “Dogs on a leash only.”.
